Preaching at Oskaloosa Reformed Church
OUR APPROACH
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.2 Timothy 2:15

In the verse above, Paul clearly instructs us on how to present the Word of God faithfully. This approach is called Exegesis.

An exegetical preaching allows the text to speak for itself and allows the preacher and hearers to agree with the Bible.

Preachers must take four approaches to prepare and present the Word of God at the Oskaloosa Reformed Church.

FIRST APPROACH: OBSERVATION
The preacher will carefully determine what the passage says and not what he wants the passage to say. He ensures he does not force the Bible to agree with him or his hearers.

SECOND APPROACH: INTERPRETATION
The preacher then determines what the passage means and does not try to align the text to his preconceived notions.

THIRD APPROACH: CORRELATION
The preacher determines how the passage relates to the rest of the Bible.

FOURTH APPROACH: APPLICATION
The preacher finally determines how the passage affects his own life, his family, and the life of the hearers.
